Horse Council teams with county to work with animals in tight times

Clark County Animal Control and the Clark County Executive Horse Council are working together to help save horses from disease, neglect and starvation and to equip animal control officers to be as effective as possible.

Together, they will benefit from a fund-raiser June 27 at Chevy’s Fresh Mex Restaurants, in Vancouver at 4315 NE Thurston Way and in Clackamas, Ore., at 12520 SE 93rd Ave.

From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. supporters may dine at Chevy’s and have 25 percent of their food charges donated to the horse council’s adopt-a-horse program. Horse council board members have agreed to split the proceeds with Animal Control, which is operating with reduced staff due to budget cuts prompted by the weak economy in Clark County.

To participate, just present a flier created by the Horse Council for the event. The flier is available online and can be downloaded.

“We are working very hard to do a good job with fewer resources,” said Paul Scarpelli, the county’s interim animal control manager.
